Mission: Through our kinship with JCDS, we provide basic needs, affordable housing, and life enhancing opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  At its heart, Friends of JCDS, Inc. is about helping individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) achieve success in the community, whether it’s providing accessible and affordable housing or helping with basic needs. For the last 21 years we have been purchasing and remodeling homes to make them accessible; removing barriers for wheelchairs, installing ramps, widening doorways and hallways and ensuring that the houses remain affordable for individuals to rent. Individuals served receive their residential services from Johnson County Developmental Supports.Through our partnership with the county agency, individuals have the security knowing that that their rent will remain well below market rates and within affordable housing guidelines all the while receiving solid services from Johnson County Developmental Supports to ensure successful community living. Along with our affordable housing program, we also offer a special assistance program that provides additional assistance with basic needs. Individuals that are served by JCDS can apply for financial aid to pay for dental bills, clothing, food, utilities or other essentials. Impact Metrics and Stories
Community Education Partnerships

In 2010, Community Education Partnerships (CEP) incorporated with the mission of increasing learning opportunities and enhancing the academic achievement of students experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity. Specifically, CEP works to ensure that all CEP students perform at or above grade level, are on track to graduate high school or receive an equivalent certificate, are socially and emotionally prepared for academic transitions, and find the joy and purpose of education. To achieve these goals, CEP recruits, screens, and trains volunteers to provide high-quality, individualized one-on-one academic tutoring and mentoring for pre-K – 12th-grade unhoused and unstably housed students.

Friends Of Boston Homeless

Friends supports innovative, solutions-oriented programs that help our vulnerable neighbors experiencing homelessness move from the streets/shelters into safe, stable housing and connect to the supports and opportunities they need to rebuild their lives. We focus on removing the final barriers of transition thatoften programs, and the people they help, don’t have the means to cover. The final transition steps out of homelessness are often the most crucial, and we help make them happen. Like a Parent/Teachers Organization or “Friends of” group, Friends bridges the gap between public sector funding and the needs of the homeless by providing a vehicle for individuals, businesses, foundations and charitable organizations to be a part of the solution to homelessness.
