Saddlebred Rescue

Saddlebred Rescue (SBR) AKA American HorseAdoption is a truly unique rescue that incorporates the thinking and practicesof a professional show stable with the realities of the plight of unwantedhorses today. SBR buys all horses in our program mostly fromauctions and sales where they were slaughter bound. We have our ownprofessional trainer who works with each horse to evaluate and design aschooling program to help the horse be as adoptable as possible. All horses in our program are evaluated by twoprofessional horse trainers before they are placed. Each horse’s overall health condition isassessed by our staff, and veterinarian, if necessary, and immediately-neededhealth issues are treated. Chronic conditions are recorded as such. All SBR horses are in a lifetime program andwill always have the option of being returned to SBR if the adopter’scircumstances change. SBR encourages every potential adopter to visitour facility and try out any of our treasures that may be a potential match. While we encourage visits, we understand it isnot always possible to visit us on-site. In these cases, our trainers work withyou to understand your needs and to pick out a horse that is perfect for you.Our placement rate is very high and returns to SBR for incompatibility arealmost nonexistent.Every day our professionals work to improve thecare, training and placement of our treasures. Proud to be a verified member of GlobalFederation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS).

The Livestock Conservancy

The Livestock Conservancy was founded in 1977 to conserve rare breeds of cattle, horses, donkeys, sheep, goats, pigs, rabbits, chickens, ducks, geese, and turkeys. Today's rare breeds are quite different from the "factory farm" stocks, which are very productive but require intensive husbandry. The rare breeds retain survival qualities such as disease resistance, foraging efficiency, maternal abilities, and longevity, which make them a perfect fit for organic, grass-based, and humane sustainable agriculture. As well as being useful to farmers today, rare breeds represent the genetic diversity essential for domestic animals to adapt to changing environmental conditions in the future.
