At Hungry for Music, our mission is putting quality musical instruments into hungry hands. We serve children who demonstrate a desire to learn music, as well as teachers who have students willing to learn. In 23 years, we've delivered 10,000 instruments to children in 48 states and 20 countries. We believe that by sharing instruments and musical experiences, children who would not otherwise have the opportunity can experience a kind of freedom and self-discovery that is often stifled in an atmosphere of economic hardship.
Boston Dance Alliance builds capacity for dance by identifying and creating shared resources, information, and productive partnerships to help dance flourish across the Boston metropolitan area and New England region. We are an independent service organization representing dancers, choreographers, teachers, presenters, allied arts and cultural professionals, arts journalists and scholars, wellness and health providers, and dance enthusiasts brought together across dance genres and geographies. BDA strives to increase cultural equity and access to dance for diverse communities, build dance audiences, and promote quality and sustainability.
WOA, the Women's Orchestra of Arizona, was founded last year under the partnership of smallMatters Institute to provide musical opportunities to empower women musicians and to benefit the greater community. As the second all-women’s orchestra in the US (after Cleveland’s Women’s Orchestra), we look to bring hope and opportunity to all aspiring female musicians in the community. The orchestra welcomes members from all walks of life who are looking to play in a musically stimulating yet supportive environment. The orchestra is made up of high school students, retired musicians, teachers, healthcare practitioners, and players from as young as 15 to the age of 70.
Bergen Performing Arts Center (bergenPAC) is a theater of and for the community that it serves throughout northern New Jersey and Rockland County, N.Y., by being a creative focus, educational resource, and engine of economic vitality. A nonprofit 501 (c)(3) organization, bergenPAC's mission is to make live performing arts and arts education accessible to its diverse community by building a creative home for artists and teachers of excellence and relevance who entertain, enlighten, inspire, and inform their audiences and students. bergenPAC, as the leading cultural and arts educational institution in Northern New Jersey, shall guide and liberate the imagination of our youth and expand the lives of our adults.
The Gulf Coast Symphony creates community through music. We perform a broad variety of concerts and create a diverse, innovative, and balanced program of performances, events, and community and education projects that reaches the widest possible public. The primary goals of the Gulf Coast Symphony are to help build general arts awareness in Lee County, develop new audiences for the arts in our community, and assist in the development of potential future performers. The GCS's volunteer musicians have 1 thing in common: creating exceptional symphonic music for their community. Many are retired or current professional players or music teachers, or highly trained musicians who focus on other fields. The musicians donate more than 15,000 hrs/year.
Ravinia® is an internationally renowned, not-for-profit music festival that presents outstanding performances by the world’s greatest artists. Ravinia’s principal objectives are: • To present performances of a full range of classical music in its open-air Pavilion and enclosed recital halls, by the world’s greatest composers and musicians, along with a variety of other kinds of light classical, jazz and popular music; • To maintain a beautiful park that is welcoming to all and attractive to families in which the music experience is enhanced by a beautiful environment and excellent dining opportunities; • To enable gifted young performers to study under great teachers and perform in concert settings; and • To develop broader and more diverse audiences for classical music through education and outreach programs and by maintaining affordable ticket prices.
DCYOP’s mission is to empower young people to transform their lives through music and community. Founded in 1960 by DC Public School teacher Lyn McLain, DCYOP has been an integral part of the Washington, DC community, fostering the musical and academic development of more than 60,000 youth. The first youth orchestra to perform at the Kennedy Center, DCYOP has toured 23 countries, played for U.S. presidents and diplomats, and worked with world-renowned musicians including Aaron Copland, Lorin Maazel, Mstislav Rostropovich, Gustavo Dudamel, Joshua Bell, and Yo-Yo Ma. DCYOP has also received the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award and the District of Columbia Mayor’s Award for Outstanding Contributions to Arts Education.
Jazz Power Initiative is a community-based, performing arts and educational non-profit organization, founded in 2003. Jazz Power serves thousands of New Yorkers and visitors annually - students, teachers, artists, seniors and general audiences, ages 8-80+, to build more creative and inclusive communities. Led by our Managing and Artistic Director, Eli Yamin, and highly experienced teaching artists who are award-winning jazz, theater and dance professionals, JPI also offers multidisciplinary training, scholarships and performance opportunities to New York City youth, ages 8-22, from every economic and social milieu at low or no cost to families, with extended outreach to students in under-served New York City public schools in Northern Manhattan.
California Shakespeare Theater (Cal Shakes) redefines the classical theater for the 21st Century, making works of extraordinary artistry that engage with our contemporary moment so we might learn about ourselves and each other in the fullness of our world. There are three pillars of our work: Make, Learn, and Engage. MAKE: We create art that represents the best of what we can do, and the making of it makes us better. Cal Shakes creates exemplary productions of works both old and new interpreted in vital and urgent ways. We do this with a commitment to bold theatricality, innovative interpretation, thoughtful excavation, to expanding cultural ownership of classic stories, and to being our best selves as artists, stewards, and members of our community. LEARN: We nurture a culture of learning where we are both teacher and student. Cal Shakes seeks to both teach and learn through our art—not simply about the theater but about our world. We transform young minds through the practice of theater, we listen to and amplify seldom heard voices, we confront our own insecurities and ignorance with an openness to new ideas. ENGAGE: We forge community by dismantling barriers to participation. Acknowledging that the theater is a rare public forum, we pursue a robust culture of participation that values above all authentic discourse around the work we make. We endeavor to hold space for all points of view because it provides a deeper, richer, more nuanced and human experience of the world.
BCF fosters cooperation and goodwill between Bhutan and Canada in several ways: Our main program is a teacher program, in which we work with the Ministry of Education in Bhutan to send qualified teachers to teach in public schools in some of the most rural parts of the country. Since January 2010, BCF has sent a total of 69 teachers to 39 different communities across Bhutan. These teachers have directly impacted the lives of over 10,800 Bhutanese students. We also offer scholarships for Bhutanese youth to complete secondary education in Canada. Finally, as one of the only North American organizations with a permanent presence in Bhutan, we serve as a cultural liaison for many visitors to the country.
Join the Dance is the Ontario representative for Pierre Dulaine's internationally acclaimed Dancing Classrooms of Mad Hot Ballroom and Take the Lead Fame. A 10 weeks Inter-curricular, Character Education program for children and youth that utilizes ballroom dancing as a vehicle to change the lives of not only the participants, but also the lives of the teachers and families who support them. Academic components of History, Geography, Literacy, Public Speaking and Social Studies are woven intricately into the joy of the dance that provides 50-minutes of good physical fitness and mental health stimulation. Culminating events allow diverse school communities to Join the Dance and Dancing Classrooms are fully endorsed by the Toronto Public and Catholic Boards. $100 will provide 1 student in a classroom with twenty 50-minute sessions for ten weeks. $2,000 sponsorship/donation provides the program to one entire classroom.
The Boston Arts Academy Foundation (BAAF) was established to raise essential funds for Boston Arts Academy, our city's only public high school for the arts. BAAF raises 35% of the school's budget from private sources to pay for the arts teachers, programming, and student wellness initiatives not covered by the school district. Without such support, our city's young people, living in one of the cultural capitals of the world, would not be able to attend a public arts high school. Boston Arts Academy (BAA) provides Boston's low-income students with access to an arts and academic education not otherwise available to them. BAA prepares a diverse community of aspiring artist-scholars to be successful in their college or professional careers and to be engaged members of a democratic society. Students of all levels of academic ability attend BAA through our academic-blind admissions process. An average of 94% of BAA graduates are accepted to college - most the first in their families to do so.
