Their mission is to assist individuals and families subjected to torture and war trauma to rebuild healthy, self-sufficient lives and to contribute knowledge and testimony to global efforts to end torture. Since its inception in 1995, the Program has cared for more than 5,000 men, women and children from over 100 countries. The Bellevue Program for Survivors of Torture (PSOT) provides comprehensive, multidisciplinary care addressing the medical, mental health, legal, and social service needs of torture survivors and their families residing in the New York metropolitan area.

Charged with the safety of the Town of Malta and the surrounding municipalities, the Malta Ridge Volunteer Fire Company (MRVFC) is comprised of just over 60 volunteers, less than 0.4% of the town residents. They are men and women who will be there at the scene of your car accident, show up in the middle of the night if your fire or carbon monoxide alarm goes off, or help put out the fire that threatens your property and the lives of those in your family. Responding to 508 calls last year, there are many other reasons they may be called on, but these are just a few examples.

The Mission of the Tacoma Fire Buff Battalion is to support, value, appreciate, and celebrate the brave men and women of the Tacoma Fire Department. To this end, we dedicate ourselves, our efforts, and our resources, in priority order, to these ends: 1. Enhancing the health, welfare, and safety of members of the Tacoma Fire Department by providing Emergency Incident Rehabilitation Services in accordance with NFPA 1584. 2. Improving the general understanding of firefighting by serving as a forum for the discussion and preservation of the history of firefighting, the application of firefighting strategies and tactics, and the utilization and functions of various fire apparatus and equipment, all with an emphasis on the Tacoma Fire Department.

The Kids Connection Haiti (KCH) mission is to empower at-risk young adults in Haiti to become contributing, self-sufficient members within their communities through education, life skills training, community service, mentorship, and career development. KCH was founded to support a very specific target community: young women and men from 18 to 25 years old who grew up in extreme poverty, whether from orphanages, homelessness, child slavery situations or coming from Haiti’s most challenging slums. KCH welcomes them all. It provides them with support for the next step in life.

Hope Builders Ministries serves indigenous Christian missions in Africa, Asia and America. These ministries primarily focus on disciples-making, pastoral training, church growth, and community development from a Christian biblical perspective. The goal is to provide spiritual, emotional and physical development to the societies they serve. The recipients of their services include men and women, young and old, and the vulnerable without regard to age, sex or religious background. HBM has also developed a disciple-making training program. This program offers Biblical training on the local church level to equip, encourage and empower all of the faith community.

Project Aid & Rescue is a team of international volunteers that have come together to alleviate the suffering of the Ukrainian people by providing aid and resources to those in need. Whether that is by providing hotel rooms for recent refugees; medicines, food, and supplies to those still inside Ukraine; evacuations of those who no longer have a safe place to live; or tactical first aid supplies, Project Aid & Rescue works with its partners, volunteers and donors to provide the needed humanitarian aid and support. Self-Help International (SHI) devotes its efforts to alleviating world hunger and poverty by providing opportunities to rural citizens that ultimately lead to self-reliance. Since its inception, Self-Help has served as a vessel; training, education, and opportunities are provided to rural citizens and whole communities in developing countries so that they can have better lives. MISSION STATEMENT: To alleviate hunger by helping people help themselves. SELF-HELP'S INITIATIVE Educate: We educate the people of the United States to understand the problems of life in developing countries particularly the awareness of the perpetual struggle by millions to produce and distribute food to battle persistent chronic hunger and poverty; we help tell their story Train: We train people in developing countries in the use of Quality Protein Maize (QPM). This increases crop yields and improves nutrition. We assist local farm families with planting, Improve: We improve infant and pre-school children's diets by administering an improved porridge feeding program. Made from QPM and pinches of barley malt, this combination has been proven to alleviate malnutrition, thwart sickness, and keep children in school so they can continue their education. Empower: We provide micro-credit loans for women to start small scale businesses. This availability of credit empowers women and increases their income - because they do not have access to traditional financing. Cooperate: We cooperate with other organizations and agencies in the introduction of appropriate farming practices or advancement in the battle against poverty and malnutrition.

Over 600 million Indians defecate in the open every day because they have no toilet. This practice cripples health, economic, and social outcomes. Open defecation (OD) causes the spread of infectious diseases that kill an estimated 300,000 children under five every year. The economic costs of OD total nearly $54 billion lost each year in India, with rural households bearing the highest per capita loss. Furthermore, women and girls who lack convenient access to toilets often miss school and work while they are menstruating. SHRI ends open defecation in India by constructing community toilet facilities that are free to use. They include eight toilets for women, eight for men, hand-washing stations, and a biogas digester (a large underground tank). Human excrement is stored in this tank where it decomposes to produce methane gas. SHRI uses this energy source to produce electricity, which powers a water filtration plant that uses a patented resin filter to remove arsenic, fluoride, iron, and bacterial contaminants. The resulting potable water is sold for $0.008 per liter, less than half the current market cost, helping SHRI to generate revenue to offset its monthly facility O&M costs. This ensures facility cleanliness, a key predictor of sustained toilet use. Thus SHRI fights alongside rural Indian communities to end open defecation as a key step in the struggle for health equity, and social and economic justice.
