Big Ocean Women

Maternal feminism is at the heart of our work within Big Ocean Women. Because feminism has become a broad banner which has encouraged many women to have a voice in all levels of society, as maternal feminists we likewise have a voice in the public square for the things that deeply matter to us – our faith, family, and maternal identities.

Women Give Back

WGB was founded with the mission of inspiring the next generation of women leaders in both business and our community as a whole. Through its bold and energetic fundraising campaigns, WGB has reinvested thousands of dollars back into the Greater San Antonio area. Founded by business leaders Christy Prescott, Trudy Madan, Deborah Bauer, and Cathy Amato, Women Give Back was created to encourage philanthropic generosity among women leaders who felt they needed to give back to a community that has supported them throughout their ventures. These four, pioneering women saw a crucial niche that was not being filled by the current not-for-profit environment in San Antonio. Their vision was to create a philanthropic organization that would provide resources to others. WGB seeks to embody the ideals of generosity. We are enthusiastic; service to our cause gives us vigor, fortitude, and energy. We are also optimistic; having confidence in our abilities to lead, mobilize, and organize people around causes that benefit everyone. Finally and above all, we are altruistic; we seek to do the greatest good we can for the greatest number of people. It is this spirit, the spirit of generosity and philanthropy, that has fueled our desire to form a non-profit that would last for generations to come. Women Give Back participates in myriad events both around the Alamo City and beyond. From advocacy for at-risk animals to support for women and children in need, WGB is proud to contribute to our vibrant and generous community. Our home may be here in Texas, but our passion for giving back knows no bounds.

Trust Women Foundation

Women in the Midwest and South are subject to restrictive laws, which imply that women are either unfit or unqualified to make decisions about their lives, their families, and their current or future children. A few laws which simply make abortion access difficult include: 1. Punitive and prejudicial laws placed on the structure of clinics that provide abortions (i.e. TRAP Laws or targeted regulation of abortion providers). 2. Medically unnecessary requirements for abortion providers to have hospital privileges, a stipulation that has closed dozens of clinics across the country. 3. Prohibiting private insurance from covering abortion care. 4. Requiring a 24-hour waiting period. 5. Mandating Notarized Dual Parental Consent for minors. IN ADDITION, in this part of the country, women are subject to other expenses to access abortion care, including: 1. Costs for longer travel to get to an abortion provider. 2. Costs for caring for their current children. 3. Missed pay to take off of work for their appointment.
